Heavily armed and surreptitious submarines give an edge to the naval force in full-scale warfare. These extraordinary naval vessels do not design and constructed in haft hazard, but it takes years of research to make a vessel that can lay hundreds of feet beneath the ocean.

There is a race going on between the world’s major powers to make the most sophisticated and powerful submarine, and the United States is one of them, and the new design that the US is working on will beat the rest.

1. United States concern about Russian vessel activities:

In the past few years, the Russian vessel and submarine activities in the North Atlantic and on the East coast of the United States have provoked serious concerns of the United States Navy.

We think that the concern was genuine because having something this huge near your home can make anyone feel threatened. Read more in the next point.

2. Russian submarines were considered best:

The Russian submarines were considered the best worldwide, and it is believed that no sub can stand them. It was also said that the Alfa and Akula Soviet nuclear attack submarines are the most powerful.

But it is not the case now because the Yasen Class submarines are fiercer than Alfa and Akula. We are presenting them and their abilities in the following slides.

3. The surreptitiousness and firepower of the Yasen Class:

The Yasen class sub surreptitiousness and its firepower is the best among its kind available.

The Russians have made every effort to make this particular model, which is supposed to be a multipurpose nuclear-fueled attack cruise missile submarine. They are trying to improve this design. They should come up with a very advanced version in the coming years.

4. A New Class submarine called 545 Laika:

The Russian navy is currently working on a new project called 545 Laika. This particular sub comprises all the latest technology of warfare.

The United States Navy is worried about the construction of this submarine, and their primary concern is what if Laika is anything like the Yasen class, but they have to wait to know until the sub is perfectly built.

5. The New Laika will have super speed:

The Naval forces believe that the New Laika will feature the specifications of both the Yamen classes and Yamen-M submarines. If it is true, the New Laika will have a maximum surface speed of 23mph and a maximum beneath the water speed of 32mph.

There are chances that it can have a maximum under the water speed of 40mph.

6. The New Laika will be powerfully armed:

The Laika class will be heavily armed by featuring many missiles. The proposed missiles that Laika might come up with are the 8 BLS missile silo, the Onix anti-ship cruise missile, and the KALIBR cruise missiles.

The Laika will also feature ten torpedo tubes, but all these missiles are not the things that worried the United States the most. Read more about that.

7. A New weapon that worries the United States:

The US is worried about the new weapon known as 3M22 Zircon Hypersonic that New Laika will feature. It is a cruise missile that, at the speed of Mach 9, can hit the ship and the land targets.

The US Navy is worried that this missile will give a tough time to the missile defense of the US Navy to counter-attack.

8. Russians have the most extensive Submarine fleet:

No other country on earth but Russia has the most extensive fleet of Submarines. These Subs are pretty powerful, and they have both the conventional and nuclear attack Subs in their fleet.

Their units are heavily armed and feature long-range nuclear weapons. Russian Subs have cruise and ballistic missiles. It would be hard for any other country to rivalize against such a fleet.

9. US Navy is also on top of the game:

There is no doubt that Russians have the most potent and deadly submarines, and it is also true that their Subs are efficient.

But United States Navy is not coming slow, and their feared missile and attack subs matched the Russian submarines in fierceness and efficiency. They have indeed engaged in a lot of construction projects.

10. The New Laika is not constructed yet:

There is no physical existence of New Laika yet because it is still in the planning phase, and the Russians are not going to start the New Laika construction before 2023.

That gives the United States Navy ample time to design and plan a submarine equated to the New Laika. Keep reading, as we are going to introduce the US Navy’s plans.

11. The New Class United States Submarine:

America is working on many submarine designs, and it is more enthusiastic about its SSN(X) program that has a new line of fast attack Subs.

One of the top of the line characteristic of this new class subs is its stealth. It is said that the new class Subs will be 70 times stealthier than the ones the Navy is currently using.

12. Sub with intensified stealth:

Previously, the stealthiest submarine till now was the Los Angeles class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines in the US fleet. But now, the Unites States subs under SSN(X) program will be 70 times stealthier.

The exciting thing is that it is not the only impressive feature of New class Sub there are many more to come.

13. The United States New class Subs are heavily armed:

What makes the SSN(X) class submarine best is its capacity of having an enormous weapon inventory. These US New class Subs can have an as much bigger weapon as a 50 Tomahawk cruise missile.

After knowing two of the best SSN(X) class features, a question arises: Will it resemble any of its forerunners.

14. The upgraded version of Seawolf Class:

The experts say that the United States New class Subs will resemblance the Seawolf-class in terms of shape and appearance. But the new class will be an upgraded version with better speed, enormous capacity, and enhanced stealth.

The Seawolf was capable of using nuclear sub-technology, and we are sure that the new class will have its improved version.

15. The New Class has advanced networking capabilities:

The submarines under SSN(X) class will have advanced-level networking capabilities. It means that the New Class subs will be able to communicate to the vessels and planes.

It will also be able to communicate to other subs when they tend to locate the enemy vessels. This sub is for sure wholly equipped to defend itself from attackers.

16. The UUVs is a significant threat:

The UUVs are Unmanned Underwater Vehicles and are mainly used by China and Russia. The purpose of UUVs is to swarm the submarines or attack them.

If the subs are not prepared for the attack of UUVs, they can cause severe destruction. Here we wonder will the SSN(X) be prepared in time.

17. The SSN(X) is in the planning phase yet:

The SSN(X) is still in the planning phase, and its first model will be constructed in 2031. After that, in 2034, the full-fledged construction will start.

The US Navy will, but only two unite per year. In the following, we are explaining the reasons why this construction process is taking so long.

18. Why the SSN(X) construction is taking too long?:

The reason for the delay in constructing New Class Subs is that the experts are still doing their research.

The experts are studying the powerful submarines of other countries, and they are trying to figure out the technology an advanced sub should have. They still have to test the technologies before they start with the construction.

19. The New class Sub will cost a fortune:

However, the SSN(X) is still in the planning phase, and the construction has not started yet, but the United States Navy Officials have revealed the estimated cost. According to them, one single unit of SSN(X) will cost $5.5 million.

Woohoo, that makes us wonder how big and advanced this vessel is going to be.

20. It’s over and above the Sea Wolf Class:

Image: Imago / United Archives International

The SSN(X) class resembles the Sea Wolf class, but it will be bigger than Sea Wolf Subs. The New class can carry a more extensive weapon inventory.

The SSN(X) hull is more significant than both the Sea Wolf (carry 9,100 tons) and the Virginia class (have, 7,800 tons capacity). Read more about that.

21. The powerful engine might run on two types of fuel:

Image: Imago / ZUMA Wire

As the SSN(X) class Subs are not constructed yet, and the research is still going on, we cannot precisely say what type of fuel the engine will be using.

But the speculations are that this giant vessel might rely on two types of fuel: diesel-electric and nuclear power. Read more in the next point.

22. The current priority of the US Navy is conducting research:

The United States Navy is not rushing towards the instruction of SSN(X). They do not have a problem with it of the SSN(X) spent too much time on a drawing board.

The US Navy aims to conduct extensive research about the Subs technologies, the projected cost, operational concept, and industries’ capabilities before they move on to the construction phase.

23. Working on essential aspects of SSN(X):

The experts are precisely working on the advanced technology that will enhance the SSN(X) class submarines’ stealth and speed.  They are also paying particular attention to the survivability of this giant vessel beneath the ocean.

The experts are working hard and ensuring that the New Class Sub with the considerable investment will not fail right after it hit the sea.

24. What’s so special in SSN(X)?

Image: pedrosala / Shutterstock.com

The SSN(X) is not the first submarine the US Navy will have. The US Navy already has a fleet of different classes like Virginia subs then; what is this hype all about. The SSN(X) Subs are unique because they will have enhanced transit speed while in stealth mode.

They are also capable of giving multi-mission in any ocean environment.

25. It’s time to welcome the new Subs warmly:

The US Navy is trying to integrate the advanced technology in this New Class and avoid the drawbacks of the old subs.

Fingers crossed! We all are anxiously waiting for SSN(X) to see how this project will go. We cannot wait to see how exactly they will use the newest technologies in the new subs.
