3. Why do the plugs have holes?

If you have ever unplugged an electrical device at home, you might have noticed these small holes placed on the prongs. You might have wondered why they are here, or just wether they have a function or not.

Well, here is the answer: they do have a function, and here is the explanation. These small holes serve the stability of the electrical installation.

Indeed, along the contact wipers that receive the prongs, there often are some sorts of bumps. Those bumps fall into the holes and ensure the plug doesn’t fall off. Moreover, some industrial installation have specific requirements and would place a plastic band though the hole in order to seal the installation.
